“STEM workshops” program gives students the opportunity to learn about science through interactive and hands-on science activities. These science programs are themed around particular areas of science and include topics such as robotics, electronics, physics, astronomy, computer programming, energy resources, chemistry, biology, etc. In each section, children are encouraged to build their own models and learn without needing a pen or pencil, papers or formulas. The hands-on activities focus on science and engineering practice. The workshops are led by trained, qualified, and dynamic volunteers and instructors. Workshops follow well-organized, professional lesson plans and also unique equipment and original materials are used. During the lessons, simple science experiments are performed and students discover how science can help us to better understand the world around us.
The main purpose of a STEM workshop is more than teaching; it aims to call students’ attention to STEM areas. Hence, instead of focusing on formulas and problems, concepts are in the foreground. The contents of STEM workshops are mostly parallel to curricula at the schools. Hence, the hands-on activities help students be successful at school. Moreover, only 5 or 6 students attend to a single workshop section and this helps instructor communicate with students easily. Besides, every student takes an opportunity to ask and learn directly. Workshop packages do not focus on a single subject; on the contrary, they include many different sides of STEM subjects together and this helps students relate and synthesize different scientific approaches.
